Jazz Festival and Summer Time

Wow, its 7:00 the night of the 22nd (our festival starts tonight), we have big event happening and I'm not running around like an idiot. This I think is a first. Im actually just chilling out watching the Jays losing to the Braves and listening to Paul Desmond with Ed Bickert, Don Thompson and Jerry Fuller. What a fantastic album. I'm excited about this years festival simply because I'm not playing at all except for with my dad next Sunday. I know it sounds wierd to be happy that I'm not playing but last year was such a gong show, I don't even know if I stopped to enjoy it so this year I'm excited about actually being able to relax a little bit and maybe even check some stuff out which is something in past years I have been totally unable to do which has kind of been a dragl

Im excited about the next two nights which features a great friend of mine James Danderfer. This guy continues to amaze me with his developing talents. Tonight and tomorrow night see Danderfer paired with Canadian legend Don Thompson. I heard the rehearsal today and its gonna be a very hot two nights of music. Danderfer writes great tunes and DT eatst them up. The are no slouches either. Brad Turner on piano, Sean Cronin on bass and Joe Poole on drums. This promises to be a great couple of nights of music. I have heard that Friday is sold out so if you are unable to make it tonight, they are doing a free afternoon show at CBC Radio 1 Studio at 700 Hamilton Street on Saturday from Noon to 2:00. Should be happening!

Im reading 'One Long Tune - The Life and Music of Lenny Breau.' What a fantastically written book. Ron Forbes-Roberts has done a wondeful job of documenting Lenny's life and his music and laying it out in a way that is not intimidating to read. Very informative and the thing I love about it is he really highlights all the great things that were happening in the late 50's and early 60's in Canada as far as music and jazz go. It makes me wish I was born in a different era! We are selling the book at the club for $32.00 and if you are a fan of jazz you have to read it, its great!

Thats it for now!
