Schedule
Well, I'm happy to say that although we're going to be tight, we're currently on schedule for our re-opening on Friday, July 22nd. Things have gone better than expected. A little over budget but nothing major. Lighting is going in today and the drywallers are here to finish off the drywalling and taping. Stainless Steel gets installed tomorrow which will hopefully allow us to get our dish area up and running. On Monday the painters come in and give the club a good once or twice over. Carpeting on Wednesday and Thursday. In the meantime the carpenters will be finishing off the stage and benches and BOB's YOUR UNCLE. We're ready to go!
Kitchen replumbing and floor filling
This is where our cooler used to me, its now where the dish pit (area) will be.
Starting to look like a club again for real
This is looking from the bar back at the new seating area.

Looking at the club from the kitchen
Getting there slowly but surely. We're way ahead of schedule which is a very nice feeling.
I can't beleive it!!
No pics until the end of today but suffice to say that its only Saturday and the club is starting to take shape quite nicely. By the end of the day the new stage should be framed and the carpet will be ripped up. By Monday we should be looking at finishing the framing and getting our various inspections before closing up the walls for good. Those of you who frequent The Cellar will be glad to know that the heat will be a heck of a lot better in here which is nice!! Brand new heaters should make for a toastly warm night of jazz during the cold days of winter!! I will post a few more pics at the end of the day once the stage and what have you is framed. I think it will be a dark day tomorrow, these guys deserve a day off......for that matter SO DO I!!

Jazz Fest and Renos
Wow, the last 10 days seemed to just fly by!!! We are in the middle of complete chaos at The Cellar. The demolition part of the reno has started and we are in full swing. I will post some pics in this blog.
First lets talk jazz fest. All in all a great festival on all accounts. Good attendance with a few exceptions, good people and of course fabulous music. Okay lets talk highlights at the club: Playing with The Night Crawlers is always fun and this time we had a great organ player from Washington State named Delvon Dumas who played wonderfully. The crowd was a tad light but musically the band really came together. 2) The Jill Townsend Big Band always delights but a new arrangement of a Ross Taggart tune called "Don't Call Before Ten" really burned and it was a feature for baritone saxophonist Chad Makela who really really tore this tune up. 3) Tuesday night, Brad Turner's Tribute to The Trumpet Masters. I got the feeling that these guys had been running around all day and were happy to be 'home' so to speak and they came ready to play and play they did. The crowd loved it and so they should. The band ripped it up on literally every tune from Clark Terry's Snapper to Freddie Hubbard's Lament For Booker. 4) Cam Ryga and Frank Marocco Quintet on Saturday night was beautiful. Frank is such a wonderful man and you could tell the mutual admiration that Cam and Frank had for each other. At one point Cam was telling the audience that Frank had played the accordian on among other things The Godfather. Without missing a beat Frank played several of teh Godfather quotes he had done in the movie. The music was awesome and Cam especially sounded wonderful. 5) Ian Hendrickson-Smith Quartet. Bop at its finest and Ian played 2 very very spirited sets of music and was very gracious to the local cats that joined him. Gestrin on piano, Rushka on bass and Poole on drums. They sounded amazing which is not a suprise.
My gigs??? Well, I have to honestly say that other than the NIght Crawlers I didn't feel musically satisfied with much that I played but hey what can you do. The gigs with Lonnie were fun and it was a thrill to play with Lonnie, Peter Bernstein and Fukoshi Tanaka. What great guys and boy are they amazing musicians. The Center gig was fun. I felt like a rock star with my very own dressing room (thank Coastal) and my very own rider with food and beer. Amazing!!
